Rowing

Rowing is one of the few sports young people can start in their teens and progress to top-level competition by the time they leave school.

The Mossbourne rowing programme operates on four levels:

  • Indoor rowing sessions focused on widening participation and inclusion

  • Indoor and on-water sessions focused on technique, fitness and team racing

  • On-water sessions for general well-being and fun

  • Indoor and on-water sessions focused on individual athlete development

Students are not charged a fee to row, making the Mossbourne programme the only one in the country that provides both broad access and high-performance training free-of-charge.

Without such comprehensive financial support, participation in the programme would be limited to the small proportion of Mossbourne students whose families have the means to pay.

“With rowing, you want to give up when it’s painful and it’s the same with studying. If you keep going to the end, the result will be better than if you had stopped.”
